Concealed Carry

Is having a license to carry a concealed weapon really necessary? The second amendment of the United States Constitution gives us the “right to bear arms”.  Being a Texan and a gun owner, I am one hundred percent for this amendment but is allowing someone to carry a weapon on them in pubic going a little too far? The obvious reason for someone to get their concealed carry license is for “self-defense” but honestly how many times is someone going to end up in a situation where they would need to use a firearm? I understand that depending on someone’s line of work, they may need it more than others. Everyone that I know who has a concealed carry license is very responsible and careful. For example, they don’t carry their weapon when they know they are going to be consuming alcohol or if they are in a professional work environment. Also not just anyone can get a license to carry gun, In Nebraska, some of the requirements to apply for a concealed carry; you must be 21, you cannot be a convicted felon or been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of violence, you cannot be mentally ill, and you must be a citizen of the United States. So I think this does a good job of eliminating the people with the bad intentions of a firearm but really what is keeping someone from carrying a handgun?

I really can’t say if I am for or against this law. I will probably end up getting my concealed carry license just because I can but if something were to happen and you could no longer get a license to carry a handgun, it really wouldn’t bother me.

  1. I will be honest, and say that I have never shot a gun before. I do not know how so even if a situation occurred where I needed a gun, I would not know what to do. I do agree there are very few situations that a firearm is needed. I know the second amendments says we can bear arms, but I think requiring people to get permits is a wise idea. If I had a gun, and needed to use it I would probably shoot the wrong person. However, letting a blonde girl have a gun might be a whole other issue. I am not angered with the government allowing only those who qualify to have weapons, but if they were to say no one could have them, I would.

  2. Honest I think that just like you said you have the right to bear arms but if you think about that it means like in your blog at all times. I personally have a concealed carry permit but it's like u said I do t always carry it but if I do go out or out of town that weapon is always on me just because you never know what's going to happen if you wouldn't have had your weapon on you. I think it's perfectly fine in instances to have your weapon with you but in places like schools or places such as that I don think you need it. I feel safer with my weapon on me and I know my family feels the same way that if lets say the one day you didn't have it on you were mugged or shot so I always have mine on when necessary and never leave it if I'm going out of town never. Also with being in the military I feel more prepared if something were to happen I just feel that everyone should feel safe when he or she does go out. So I have to say that I believe that its fine to have a concealed carry with you at all times.

  3. I think a lot of people get the license just because they can, and what looks cooler and more intimidating that carrying a nice six-shooter? Heck I'd walk around with a nice small James Bond pistol in my suit, but I think the chance of me actually using it in a serious self defense situation is highly unlikely. If anything I'd be tempted to pop that thing in the air for fun. Keeping a weapon in a household though is a plausible idea; have to protect what's yours! So I believe the law is ok even though seeing someone walk into a room with a gun could make me feel a little uneasy, especially with the ridiculous shootings going on nowadays. It's a nice law to have but then again I'm sure we can deal without carrying a concealed weapon in public.

  5. I absolutely agree with the fact that Americans can bear arms and after reading this post I am thinking that i favor having the get a license. Honestly the chances of using it are miniscule at best, but as a defense the saying "I'd rather have it and not need it, than not have it and need it" comes to mind. Now if I see someone walk into a room with a gun holstered, a flag goes up, but that person is going to be the one saving my life when a criminal, who will have no regard for a silly license, enters the room. I am for having concealed firearms.
